The gym opened with more than six hundred members signed up before the ribbon was cut. Within three months, we were profitable, and within six, I hired my first full-time trainer.<\/p>\n

That was when I met Ezra Kavanaugh.<\/p>\n

He was thirty-eight, a physical therapist who had competed in weightlifting when he was younger. He joined the gym because it was close to his clinic and spent the first month barely speaking to me beyond polite hellos.<\/p>\n

One evening, he watched me help a sixty-year-old client adjust her squat.<\/p>\n
